The Henry and SAM join forces for the August Remix at the Olympic Sculpture Park with an evening of music, performance, poetry, film, and tours.
Seattle-based musician and producer Erik Blood headlines the event. Known for his collaborations with Shabazz Palaces, THEESatisfaction, and The Moondoggies, Blood’s most recent album Lost In Slow Motion (2016) ranges from cosmic poetics to atmospheric aesthetics and has been called “a sonic call to the stars” (Jake Uitti, Seattle Times). Opening for Blood is Echoes in Sleep, an experimental music project from Portland, Oregon created by Alex Devlaeminck.
Throughout the evening, AU Collective will draw upon celestial themes to create a new constellation of performances across the Olympic Sculpture Park. AU Collective creates multi-racial performances that are accessible to audiences regardless of age, race, or class.
Poet Amaranth Borsuk and artist Carrie Bodle will contribute Moon Signs, a participatory poetry reading attuned to bodies, both celestial and terrestrial. The evening will also include DJs, films, and tours all under the nighttime sky.
The Untuning of the Sky is a series of outdoor events throughout the summer that brings together music, poetry, and film inspired by the mystery and wonder of the sky at night. Held at venues across Seattle, the series links such divergent cultural traditions as the Music of the Spheres and afrofuturism with contemporary astronomical theory. The series takes its name from John Hollander’s 1961 book by the same name that examines the influence of music on poetry.
This edition of SAM Remix is co-presented by Seattle Art Museum and Henry Art Gallery, and is also part of the Henry’s summer series The Untuning of the Sky. Amaranth Borsuk and Carrie Bodle’s Moon Signs is supported in part by the Simpson Center for the Humanities at the University of Washington.
