INCITE•INSIGHT lecture:
Daniel Joseph Martinez
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Daniel Joseph Martinez engages in an interrogation of social, political, and cultural mores through artworks that have been described as nonlinear, asymmetrical, multi-dimensional propositions. Utilizing a conceptual operation ranging from the solid to the ephemeral, the works are executed in a wide range of media, including text, sculpture, photography, painting, installation, robotics, performance, and public interventions that delve into topics of race and sociopolitical boundaries present within American society.
Cornish College of the Arts and Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington present INCITE•INSIGHT: Contemporary Art After the Studio, a series of public lectures and performances that promote engagement with contemporary art practice. Invited artists, curators, and thinkers visit Seattle for short residencies to interact with students through group conversation and studio visits. The series advances and supports meaningful dialogue on the social and cultural impact of art and the ideas of our time.
