Reconstructing Resistance: Cultural Organizing Against White Nationalism - What does art have to do with it?
Organized by If You Don’t They Will and hosted at the Henry, this participatory workshop will explore the role that art institutions and cultural organizers play in the movement to say no. NOT EVER. to white nationalism. A broad coalition of curators, art administrators, art educators and artists are welcome to participate.
White nationalists have long used art and cultural organizing as effective strategies to mainstream their ideology. In the contemporary landscape, when social justice language is often co-opted by white nationalists to gain legitimacy and institutional footholds, it is critical that art and cultural institutions find ways to develop critical imaginations and cultural organizing practices to set proactive boundaries that say no. NOT EVER. to white nationalism. This participatory workshop offers a conceptual framework and concrete examples from the
no. NOT EVER. archive as a platform to discuss the many ways arts organizers and cultural institutions can organize against the white nationalist social movement.
