no. NOT EVER. is a visual and audio archive of stories that recovers a hidden history of cultural organizing in the Pacific Northwest. This living archive consists of video interviews that the Seattle-based collaborative If You Don’t They Will conducted with a network of rural and suburban activists in the Pacific Northwest who were working to counter white nationalism in their communities during the 1980s and 1990s. This was during the height of the Northwest Territorial Imperative, a white nationalist call to create a white separatist homeland in the Pacific Northwest. For the installation in the Henry Test Site, the collaborative has edited the no. NOT EVER. video interviews to create a non-linear structure across several screens that weaves together multiple voices and varied strategies for resisting the white nationalist social movement.
This exhibition is presented on the occasion of the group’s participation in the Labor and Working-Class History Association Annual Conference at the University of Washington in June 2017. It also expands upon the Henry Test Site as a space that engages in topical issues in contemporary culture.
