Rachel Mason: The Lives of Hamilton Fish

The Lives of Hamilton Fish is a cinematic performance based on the deaths of two men coincidentally named Hamilton Fish, whose demises were both announced on the front page of the Peekskill Evening Star News on January 16, 1932. A meditation on life and chance, these two men—a serial killer and a statesman—shared little in common aside from their names and the timing of their obituaries. For this performance Rachel Mason will be joined by Night Cadet, a dream-pop quartet based in Seattle.

Rachel Mason is a sculptor, songwriter, and performer who has recorded 10 full-length albums, toured, exhibited, and performed at galleries and museums internationally. In the U.S., she has exhibited and performed at the Whitney Museum, Queens Museum, Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art, School of the Art Institute in Chicago, James Gallery at CUNY, University Art Museum in Buffalo, Sculpture Center, Hessel Museum of Art at Bard and Occidental College, Kunsthalle Zurich, The New Museum, Park Avenue Armory, Art in General, La Mama, Galapagos, Dixon Place, Empac Center for Performance in Troy, and here at the Henry. Her work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, Village Voice, Los Angeles Times, Flash Art, Art in America, Art News, and Artforum.

The Lives of Hamilton Fish features a live performance by the artist, who plays the role of a newspaper editor obsessed with the coincidence.
