Phonic Internalizations: an electronic resistance movement inside Fun. No Fun.
Kraft Duntz and Dawn Cerny have invited the
Beauty Hunters, a Seattle-based trio using analog synthesizers and projection, to create a sonic and visual performance inside their installation
Fun. No Fun. Using the structures and voids of the existing sculptural installation as an instrument, the Beauty Hunters will construct a series of acoustic situations that explore how sound behaves within the space and affects the felt conditions of being inside it.
Seattle-based musicians Guy Maddison and Sean Hollowell, and graphic artist Curt Buchberger, are the Beauty Hunters. Formed in 2016, their intention is to bring synthesizer-driven instrumental music together with projected images in live performance. Although early on the band participated in two conventional shows, the intent has always been to perform in unlikely public venues; examples to date include a skate park, a public boat launch, a park amphitheater, and a bicycle shop. For the Beauty Hunters, every show anticipates a confluence of the environment and the performance and aims to create a sense of dialog and connection.
Visitors are encouraged to move through the Fun. No Fun. installation during the performance. Seating will be limited. Please note that this performance will be at a high volume. The sound may affect the visitor experience in the museum’s other galleries and exhibitions.
