    Performance Activations: MAGMA SLIT

The Henry welcomes Donna Huanca’s collaborators, Parisjoy Jennings and Kim Thompson, for a weekend of durational performance that will take place within the exhibition Donna Huanca: MAGMA SLIT. Huanca’s installation performances are essential to her practice, integrated into and echoing the generative, embodied, and entangled expressions of her paintings and sculptures. Jennings and Thompson will embed themselves within the landscape of objects on the sand-covered platform at the center of the gallery, offering a rare chance to witness a multi-hour, multi-sensory ritual performance. Visitors are welcome to stay in the gallery for however long they wish.

    ARTIST BIOS

Parisjoy Jennings (Los Angeles, California) creates work that explores traumatic experiences, social inequities, and the question of how they can be resolved. By carefully cutting, sewing, and most importantly, textile printing and dyeing, her work expresses these experiences through the practice of clothing construction.

Kim Thompson (she/her) is a Korean American transnational adoptee from Long Island NY. She lives and works in Los Angeles as a dancer, movement, and performing artist. She is grateful to have worked with artists such as Donna Huanca, Alex de Corte, Madeline Hollander, Narcissister, Oneohtrix Point Never, Pussy Riot, and numerous concert dance productions with Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company with whom she was a member for five years. Kim attended California Institute of the Arts and is the owner of Body Dada, a boutique fitness studio in the neighborhood of Highland Park.
