    Monsen Photography Lecture: James Welling

The Henry is delighted to announce the establishment of the Monsen Photography Lecture, an annual presentation which will bring key makers and thinkers in photographic art to the Pacific Northwest. Named after Drs. Joseph and Elaine Monsen, the series is designed to further knowledge about and appreciation for the art of photography.
Los Angeles-based photographer James Welling is our inaugural speaker. Welling has consistently experimented with the bounds of the photographic medium throughout his career that spans three decades.
His work has been exhibited widely nationally and internationally, including recent solo exhibitions at the University Museum of Contemporary Art, UMASS Amherst (2013); Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art (2012); and Minneapolis Institute of Arts (2010). Welling’s work is held in major national and international museum collections, including the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; among many others. James Welling: Chronograph is on view at the Henry through June 26.
The Henry is indebted to the Monsen family for gifting, to date, over 1,280 photographs from their collection to the museum.
