What makes a museum like the Henry tick? What role can you play in bringing contemporary ideas to life?
The Henry Teen Collective is a team of curious and enthusiastic youth dedicated to understanding and making the contemporary museum relevant to their peers. The Collective goes behind the scenes at the Henry and spends time learning about the museum, meeting artists, previewing exhibitions, exploring the collection, and facilitating dialogues around works of art.
Based on these experiences, the group then helps shape an activity, game, or project of their choice for the annual
Arty Party on April 24. As this is the first year of the Henry Teen Collective, the group will also play a large role in shaping the future of the program (including picking its permanent name!).
What you need to know:
- Sessions are weekly: February 25 through May 12, on Thursday afternoons, 3:30–5 p.m. at the Henry
- Any teen in grades 9 through 12 can apply
- The program is free and service-learning credit is available
What you'll gain from the program:
- Knowledge about the inner-workings of a contemporary museum
- New friends, including curators, artists, and museum staff
- Firsthand experience of how contemporary artists and museums bring ideas to life
- A foot in the door of the art world and an opportunity to learn about the many roles one can play
