Henry Art Liaison Tour: what could space inform us?
Museum spaces as a platform to display arts and archives have been restrictive in terms of visitors’ experiences in regards to the imaginative merge of arts and mind. The so-called etiquettes in viewing museum arts are around without formal notice; museum galleries need to stay quiet, the visitors stand up while viewing the artworks, and photography is somewhat prohibited unless told with signs or notifications. Beyond the colonial ways to curate/ lead the arts conversations, architectural and spatial designs could be explored as the catalyst to this culture. What could we notice in the museum spaces that direct us towards behaving certain ways without explicit language by the museum curators? Join HAL Hadi Yusri in answering this question on top of his preparation to an authentic movement practice that analyzes how bodies gain and respond to information surrounding them.
WHO ARE THE HENRY ART LIAISONS?
We are a group of UW students from multidisciplinary backgrounds, instructed by artist, curator, and writer Berette S. Macaulay. We share a passion for decentralizing art and museum practices and are interested in dismantling structures that are rooted in systems of colonialism, capitalism, and hegemony. In our time interning at the Henry, we have learned to foreground visitor-centered programming and activities in order to create a bridge between you and the art world.
