ArtVentures: Día de los Muertos - Ancestral Dance with Alicia Mullikin

How does Día de los Muertos create an opportunity for us to honor our memories? How do memories live in our bodies and how can we use movement as a tool for remembrance and imagination? Come learn about the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos with dance artist Alicia Mullikin in this family-friendly, all-levels dance class! Dive into this day of remembrance and create a dance in honor of your ancestral lineage. Participants will be guided through movement exploration and will have the opportunity to be in community with others who wish to remember and honor their passed loved ones with joy and vulnerability. All you need is an open heart and willingness to explore movement.

Alicia Mullikin is a first generation Mexican-American and Native American who uses her identity to inform her work as a contemporary dance artist. As an artist, Mullikin believes that physical embodiment and representation of diverse cultural experiences can be used as a form of empowerment and healing for historically marginalized communities. Through her work, she strives to bring visibility to the stories and experiences of women of color. The Henry’s ArtVentures program fosters fun, imaginative, and immersive experiences for intergenerational participants and families by encouraging creative play with a variety of media and materials. Each month, a different local artist designs and facilitates an activity inspired by connections between current and upcoming exhibitions and community issues and interests.

Join us for artfully imagined sessions that will move you beyond the limits of your screens, as well as foster meaningful connections through them.
