Landscapes hold wisdom about who we’ve been, are, and wish to be. How do you access and speak to nature within the communities in which you live? Which animals and plants live near your home or under the waters of Puget Sound? How are they affected by our daily actions? Join artist Hernan Paganini in an immersive and creative exploration of life under water and all the universes hidden within it. The Henry’s Education Studio will be transformed into an underwater imaginarium where we will meet ourselves, each other, and the creatures and plants that share our environment through creative play and drawing.
Our Bodies of Water is part of Paganini’s ongoing nomadic school project
Viaje en Barco and is presented in conjunction with Oscar Tuazon’s
Water School installation, on view within
In Plain Sight.
Hernan Paganini (Argentina, born 1982) studied Graphic Design and developed his teaching practice at Buenos Aires University. Interested in searching other applications for his work, he completed the Antiproyecto workshop dictated by Diego Bianchi at Di Tella University and, one year later, was selected to take part in the Artist Program at the Torcuato Di Tella University and also received the National Arts Found Scholarship (CONTI Grant) created by the Government of Buenos Aires. Inspired by the relation between art, education, and culture, he created the Nomadic School Project Viaje en Barco, which he has presented to kids and adults in several countries in Latin America, North America, and Europe. He has been invited to participate in several national and international residences including El Ranchito, Matadero, Madrid, Spain (2015); Kiosko Gallery, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia (2016); the Artist Residence Program of Facebook (2017); and The South Biennale (2018). Upon moving to the United States in 2017, he was selected by 4Culture to be the 2018/2019 Artist in Residence, working inside King County’s government. He was also selected by the City of Seattle to be a 2019 Artist in Residence at the Recology Program. Additionally, he has been chosen by the Washington State Arts Commission for inclusion in the Public Artist Roster for 2018-21 and, by the city of Palo Alto, California in the Public Art Program for 2018-20.
