Join us for a fun afternoon of storytelling and movement led by Julia Izumi and Alyza Del-Pan Monley. This workshop is created in collaboration with ArtsWest and inspired by the characters and godscapes in Julia’s play
miku, and the gods.
Have you ever wondered what a god wants? Is it to taste a scone? To tell a joke? To fly to the moon? To collect every glass bottle on every shore on every beach everywhere? Through free-writes and dance experiments, we will explore our own unique stories and summon the gods inside of us to bring them to life.
This workshop is for all ages. Participants ages 8 or younger, please bring an adult buddy. Bring clothing and footwear that you feel comfortable moving around in.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Alyza DelPan-Monley (they/she) believes in the expressive power that can be accessed in the body through movement. As a movement designer and choreographer, their work has been presented at Cafe Nordo (
Violet’s Attic,
Jitterbug Perfume), Washington Ensemble Theater (
Teh Internet; Revolt.
She Said.
Revolt Again.;
Straight White Men;
Dance Nation), and ArtsWest (
Office Hour,
The Last World Octopus Wrestling Champion). Next up they will be directing
miku, and the gods. at ArtsWest. They perform and collaborate regularly with Salvage Rituals and are a company member and dancer with MALACARNE. Alyza is Velocity Dance Center's Curating Artist in Residence through May 2023. They strive to participate in and build processes where everyone feels like they can exist in their fullest selves by cultivating and celebrating every bodies’ unique form of expression.
Julia Izumi is a writer and performer who makes plays, musicals, and other theatrical nonsense. Her work has been developed and presented at Manhattan Theatre Club, Clubbed Thumb, New Georges, Bushwick Starr, WP Theater, The COOP, Berkeley Rep’s Ground Floor, SPACE on Ryder Farm, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ojai Playwrights Conference, Seattle Rep, ArtsWest, Great Plains Theatre Conference, Williamstown Theatre Festival, NNPN/Kennedy Center MFA Playwrights' Workshop, Barn Arts Collective, BMI’s Librettists Workshop, CAATA’s National Asian-American Theatre ConFest, Rorschach Theatre, and Pork Filled Productions. Honors for her work include O’Neill Finalist, Kilroys List Honorable Mention, and Theater Masters’ Take Ten. She received the inaugural OPC Dr. Kerry English Award, KCACTF’s Darrell Ayers Playwriting Award, NY Society Library's Emerging Women's Artist Grant and a Puffin Artists' Grant. She is a New Dramatists Resident and is currently under commission from True Love Productions, MTC/Sloan, Playwrights Horizons, and Seattle Rep. She received her MFA fromBrown University.
