    Anchors: A Movement Workshop

The space between two points is rich, deep and expansive. Inspired by themes from Martha Friedman: Castoffs, Syniva Whitney and Alyza DelPan-Monley investigate the parts and the whole, the virtuosic and the distorted, the classically idealized masculine body and the reality of our unique gender-diverse expressions of beauty. They will drop ideological and material anchors to give participants safe harbors to explore these deep waters. This workshop is open to all levels of experience and levels of ableness, and will use a diverse range of options for using the body's kinesthetic and somatic experience to uncover new understandings.
Alyza DelPan-Monley is a Seattle-based dancer and choreographer, seeking to brighten her surroundings with splashes of whimsy, human connection and goofy possibilities. Her work has been performed Seattle International Dance Festival, Cafe Nordo, Annex Theater, Book-it Repertory, Washington Ensemble Theater, Evoke Productions and Strawberry Theater Workshop. Known for her quirky non-sensical non-sequiturs and character-ridden theatrics, Alyza believes that dance can burst bubbles and repurpose awkward into awesome.
Syniva Whitney is an artist creating performative experiences that combine theater, dance and visual art. Their performance project, Gender Tender, creates work that investigates the nature of queer and transgender personal relationships and histories, the surreal nature of transformation and the disintegration of binary thinking. They have shared work at On the Boards, Gay City Arts, Seattle International Dance Festival, Yellow Fish Epic Durational Festival and Velocity Dance Center where they are currently the 2018 Artist in Residence.
