This fall the Henry presents photographs by Wolfgang Tillmans. The installation seeks to evoke the experience of Tillmans’ own exhibition style, juxtaposing a rich variety of his landscape subjects generously donated to the Henry Art Gallery’s permanent collection, with a particularly famous figural diptych from a local private collection. These complement the Tillmans abstraction included in the Carel Balth exhibition and provide a counterpoint to the Dutch artist’s extraordinary approach to making art with captured images. Together these showings reveal the infinite variety of visual experiences that have developed out of the legacy of photography.
