Henry Teen Art Collective: The Fall

    Lobby
    May 27, 2022 — September 04, 2022
The Fall is a collaborative exhibition made by the Henry Teen Art Collective. Inspired by the concept of wealthy Roman elite, the installation plays along the themes of nonsense and irony to make a larger comment on our current capitalist society and wealth inequality. According to the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality, in 2007 the top 10% of families in America controlled 73.1% of the wealth, while the bottom 60% controlled only 4.2%. And the gap is continuing to get larger. While it is clear that, looking back, the lavish lifestyle of wealthy Roman elites were dependent on the working class, it’s a lot harder to recognize that the same may be happening at this very moment.

The two wall murals, center statue, and columns all are products of collaborative work planned and executed by the collective over the course of several months. After a long, thought-provoking process of brainstorming over Zoom, the artists were able to express their creativity with the decided themes through individual and group work.

    CREDITS

The Henry Teen Art Collective is a group of creative people aged 14 – 18 who come to the Henry from across the greater Seattle area to meet artists, explore exhibitions, collaborate on creative projects, and build community. Despite the pandemic, every week they engage with each other and evolve their art practices together. They developed this exhibition with the support of the museum and its staff. Enjoy the culmination of this year's hard work.
