Silver See, a Portfolio of Photography from Los Angeles

    Upper Level Galleries
    January 03, 2008 — March 30, 2008
The Silver See portfolio, assembled in 1977, provides a glimpse at the physical and conceptual territory explored by Los Angeles photographers at a pivotal moment in the medium’s history. From provocative formal and materialist experiments to striking landscapes and social documents, this portfolio explores the sophistication of artists highly attuned to, and at times critical of, the production of mass media images taking place in L.A. Created over 30 years ago, this portfolio resonates with the concerns of a new generation of artists experimenting with photography today. A part of the Henry’s Monsen Collection of Photography, the portfolio includes work by Jo Ann Callis, Robbert Flick, Judith Golden, Robert Heinecken, Victor Landweber, and several other artists.
