In 1989, as part of the Henry's ongoing Studio series, artist Richard C. Elliott was asked to transform the outside of the Henry Art Gallery with his reflector paintings. The result was Cycle of the Sun, a series of paintings that fit into the sculpture alcoves on the exterior walls of the museum. Using over 21,500 bicycle and truck reflectors of different colors and sizes, Elliott created a work that reacts to daily and seasonal changes in natural light.
