    Presence and Loss

    Upper Level Galleries
    September 18, 2001 — December 16, 2001
This presentation of photographs was drawn from the Joseph and Elaine Monsen Photography Collection at the Henry and from the collections of local artists and lenders. The exhibition paid homage to New York City, its citizens and its artists. It was a way of remembering the special history and character of the city, with a focus on the power of images to stimulate thought and ideas. The exhibition also recognized the role of artists as poets, symbol makers and interpreters. Above all, it honored the memory of those who fell victim to unspeakable violence on September 11, 2001.
