For more than 40 years, Paul Laffoley’s work has consistently defied art historical categorization and has systematically engaged a broad swath of disciplines, including art history, architecture, classical literature, science fiction, and natural and occult sciences to consider, analyze and propose alternative ways to understand and rethink the complex world that surrounds us.

Laffoley’s work uniquely combines imagery, colors, diagrams, symbols, and texts to create densely layered paintings that take anywhere from one to three years to paint and code. His earliest works referenced eastern mandalas in form and also borrow from that model of contemplation and spiritual examination. His sustained and intense focus on both image and content has given way to a unique and complex body of work that combines theory and encrypted knowledge with visionary representation.
